These are residents of Canada's poorest postal code, the Downtown East Side. This neighborhood has the highest drug use and mental illness per capita in North America. While the 2010 Winter Olympics approach, developers heavily gentrify this community made of project homes, or single room occupancies, and various social services. Development here is controversial because the Olympics are clearly accelerating the gentrication of the DTES in an attempt to mask or 'band-aid' a potential image-scaring and tourist-unfriendly component of Vancouver. As of now, 32% of this neighborhood's residents will be displaced before the Olympics. In what other social bracketed neighbourhood would a city tolerate 1/3 of its residents being at risk of displacement due to new development?

nice photos Jen, gentle and calm, before (or during) the storm...
Nice photo's!
I love these shots. Since I know 3 of your subjects I gotta say you captured them well, especially their dignity. Thanks. - Paulo
The photo's are great. Sundance happened to catch my eye. It made me wonder about this man's story. Why is he called Sundance?
Plicious, I just looked you up. The first thing I thought about when I saw Sundance is that he should be an actor....
